Status of Blood Levels of Superoxide Dismutase in Patients with Malaria: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Systematic review and meta-analysis of blood levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in patients with malaria. The study found that blood levels of SOD were lower in individuals with malaria compared to those without infection, but no differences were observed between severe and nonsevere malaria patients.
Acute and prolonged effects of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens GF424-derived SOD on antioxidant defense in healthy individuals challenged with intense aerobic exercise.
A randomized clinical trial evaluated the antioxidative benefits of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens GF424-derived SOD (BA-SOD) in 80 healthy individuals undergoing acute aerobic exercise. BA-SOD significantly reduced ROS levels, enhanced SOD activity, and increased catalase activity and glutathione levels, suggesting improved antioxidant defenses and redox balance.
Efficacy and Safety of the Combination of Superoxide Dismutase, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin B12, and Carnitine for 12 Months in Patients with Diabetic Neuropathy.
Prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled RCT of 85 patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus assessing a combination of Superoxide Dismutase, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Acetyl L-Carnitine, and Vitamin B12 for 12 months. The active group showed significant improvements in peripheral neuropathy indices, pain, and quality of life compared to placebo.
Evaluation of lecithinized human recombinant super oxide dismutase as cardioprotectant in anthracycline-treated breast cancer patients.
A randomized study in 80 breast cancer patients evaluated the cardioprotective effects of 80 mg PC-SOD (human recombinant SOD bound to lecithin) administered intravenously before anthracycline chemotherapy. No differences were found between the PC-SOD and placebo groups in cardiac function or biomarkers, indicating no cardioprotective effect.

This pilot, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial evaluated the effect of a proprietary melon juice concentrate rich in SOD (Extramel®) on stress and fatigue in 70 healthy volunteers. The supplementation significantly improved signs and symptoms of stress and fatigue, as well as quality of life and perceived stress, compared to placebo.
The pharmacokinetics and effects of a long-acting preparation of superoxide dismutase (PC-SOD) in man.
This double-blind, placebo-controlled, four-period cross-over study investigated the pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability of single rising doses of superoxide dismutase covalently linked to lecithin (PC-SOD) in eight healthy volunteers. The study found that PC-SOD was well tolerated, with no effects on renal function, and demonstrated linearity of plasma concentrations with dose.
