Effects of pumpkin seed in men with lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia in the one-year, randomized, placebo-controlled GRANU study.

The GRANU study was a randomized, placebo-controlled trial investigating the efficacy of pumpkin seed in men with lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia. After 12 months, pumpkin seed treatment led to a clinically relevant reduction in International Prostate Symptom Score compared with placebo, although the response rate did not differ significantly between pumpkin seed extract and placebo.

Pumpkin seed oil (Cucurbita pepo) versus tamsulosin for benign prostatic hyperplasia symptom relief: a single-blind randomized clinical trial.

This single-blind randomized clinical trial compared the effects of tamsulosin and pumpkin seed oil on BPH symptoms in 73 patients. Both treatments significantly decreased the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and improved quality of life, with pumpkin seed oil showing no side effects but being less effective than tamsulosin.
