Arginine therapy in sickle cell disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical outcomes.

Meta-analysisn = 830

This meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of l-arginine on clinical outcomes in sickle cell disease patients experiencing vaso-occlusive crises. It included eight RCTs with 830 patients and found no statistically significant benefit of arginine on pain scores, opioid consumption, time to crisis resolution, or length of hospital stay. The study concluded that l-arginine is not recommended for routine clinical use due to the lack of proven efficacy and a potential safety signal regarding hospital readmissions.
