Effects ofExtract on Metabolism, Antioxidants, Adipocytokines, Telomere Length, and Aerobic Capacity in Overweight/Obese Individuals.

RCTNutrition Inflammation -Physique -

RCT investigating the effects of Irvingia gabonensis (IG) kernel extract on metabolism, adiposity indices, redox status, inflammation, adipocytokines, blood leukocyte relative telomere length, and aerobic capacity in overweight/obese individuals. IG increased plasma vitamin C and serum adiponectin, but showed no differences in metabolism, inflammation, RTL, and aerobic capacity compared to placebo.

The efficacy of Irvingia gabonensis supplementation in the management of overweight and obesity: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials.

Systematic reviewPhysique Nutrition

Systematic review of RCTs evaluating Irvingia gabonensis for weight reduction in obese and overweight individuals. Three RCTs reported significant reductions in body weight and waist circumference, and positive effects on blood lipid profile, but had methodological flaws. Adverse events included headache and sleep difficulty. The efficacy of I. gabonensis as a weight loss aid remains unproven.

IGOB131, a novel seed extract of the West African plant Irvingia gabonensis, significantly reduces body weight and improves metabolic parameters in overweight humans in a randomized double-blind placebo controlled investigation.

RCTn = 102Physique Inflammation Nutrition

RCT of 102 overweight and/or obese volunteers comparing 150 mg of IGOB131, an extract of Irvingia gabonensis, to placebo. Significant improvements in body weight, body fat, waist circumference, and metabolic parameters such as cholesterol, blood glucose, C-reactive protein, adiponectin, and leptin levels were observed in the IGOB131 group.

The use of a Cissus quadrangularis/Irvingia gabonensis combination in the management of weight loss: a double-blind placebo-controlled study.

RCTn = 72Physique

A 10-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluated the effects of Cissus quadrangularis-only and a Cissus quadrangularis/Irvingia gabonensis combination on weight loss in 72 overweight and obese participants. Both active groups showed significant reductions in body weight, body fat, waist size, total plasma cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and fasting blood glucose levels compared to placebo, with the combination group showing even larger reductions.

Effect of Irvingia gabonensis on Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Sensitivity, and Insulin Secretion.

RCTn = 24Nutrition Heart Health Hormone Health

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial evaluated the effect of Irvingia gabonensis on metabolic syndrome, insulin sensitivity, and insulin secretion in 24 patients. Significant decreases in waist circumference, glucose levels, triglycerides, VLDL, and AUC of glucose were observed. Irvingia gabonensis led to remission of metabolic syndrome in 58.3% of the patients.

The effect of Irvingia gabonensis seeds on body weight and blood lipids of obese subjects in Cameroon.

RCTn = 40Physique Heart Health

Double-blind randomized study of 40 obese subjects in Cameroon evaluating Irvingia gabonensis seeds for obesity management. The IG group showed significant weight loss and improved blood lipid profiles compared to placebo.
