Evaluating the effectiveness of combined T4 and T3 therapy or desiccated thyroid versus T4 monotherapy in hypothyroidism: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of combined T4 and T3 therapy or desiccated thyroid (DTE) compared to T4 monotherapy in hypothyroidism. The study found that combined therapy and DTE lead to higher T3 and lower T4 levels, but no significant effects on heart rate, lipid profile, or quality of life were noted. The results suggest personalized treatment approaches due to heterogeneity.
Induction of oral tolerance in human autoimmune thyroid disease.
RCT involving 13 patients with autoimmune thyroid disease, comparing desiccated thyroid from porcine thyroids to synthetic thyroxine (T4). The study found no changes in humoral immunity parameters, but cellular immunity to certain peptides was suppressed in the test group.
