Dang shen [Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) Nannf] herbal formulae for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Meta-analysis

This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the efficacy and safety of Dang shen (Codonopsis pilosula) formulae for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The analysis included 48 randomized controlled trials and found that Dang shen formulae improved lung function, quality of life, and exercise capacity compared to conventional pharmacotherapy and placebo. Adverse events were low and not significantly different between groups.

Beneficial effects of Codonopsis lanceolata extract on systolic blood pressure levels in prehypertensive adults: A double-blind, randomized controlled trial.

This randomized controlled trial investigated the effects of Codonopsis lanceolata extract on systolic blood pressure in prehypertensive adults. The study found that CL extract significantly decreased systolic BP and increased catalase activity. It also improved serum nitrite concentration, reduced high sensitivity C-reactive protein, and decreased malondialdehyde levels, indicating benefits in preventing endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, and lipid peroxidation.

Effects of a Chinese medical herbs complex on cellular immunity and toxicity-related conditions of breast cancer patients.

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study examined the effects of a Chinese medicinal herb complex (RG-CMH) on immune cell counts in 58 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. RG-CMH administration was associated with a significant reduction in leucocyte and neutrophil levels compared to placebo, though differences in T cell levels were not statistically significant.
