Evaluation of different treatment methods against denture stomatitis: a randomized clinical study.

RCTn = 50

RCT evaluating the efficacy of 2% Uncaria tomentosa gel against denture stomatitis in 50 patients. The study found that U tomentosa gel had the same effect as 2% miconazole gel, with a significant reduction in CFU/mL and decreased DS severity.

[Efficiency of includes of bioactive substances in diet of patient with hepatic encephalopathy].

RCTn = 66Brain Health

RCT involving 66 patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy. 30 patients received standard treatment plus CognoBlend, a formula containing plant extracts, for 5 weeks. The combined treatment group showed significant improvements in clinical signs, psychometric tests, electroencephalography, and serum biochemistry compared to the standard therapy group.

Persistent response to pneumococcal vaccine in individuals supplemented with a novel water soluble extract of Uncaria tomentosa, C-Med-100.

RCTImmunity

A human intervention study with male volunteers compared individuals supplemented with 350 mg x 2 C-Med-100 daily for two months to untreated controls for their response to a 23 valent pneumococcal vaccine. The C-Med-100 group showed statistically significant immune enhancement, including elevated lymphocyte/neutrophil ratios and reduced decay in antibody titer responses.

Randomized double blind trial of an extract from the pentacyclic alkaloid-chemotype of uncaria tomentosa for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

RCTn = 40Joint Bone Health

RCT evaluating the safety and efficacy of a plant extract from the pentacyclic chemotype of Uncaria tomentosa in 40 patients with active rheumatoid arthritis. The extract reduced the number of painful and swollen joints compared to placebo, with only minor side effects observed.

Efficacy and safety of freeze-dried cat's claw in osteoarthritis of the knee: mechanisms of action of the species Uncaria guianensis.

RCTn = 45Joint Bone Health Inflammation

RCT evaluating freeze-dried cat's claw (Uncaria guianensis) in 45 patients with knee osteoarthritis. Cat's claw significantly reduced pain associated with activity and improved medical and patient assessment scores. In vitro, both U. guianensis and U. tomentosa showed antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting TNFalpha and PGE2 production.

DNA repair enhancement of aqueous extracts of Uncaria tomentosa in a human volunteer study.

RCTn = 12

RCT evaluating the effect of C-Med-100, an aqueous extract of Uncaria tomentosa, on DNA repair in 12 healthy adults. The study found a significant decrease in DNA damage and an increase in DNA repair in the supplement groups compared to controls, with no drug-related toxic responses observed.

Uncaria tomentosa (cat’s claw): a promising herbal medicine against SARS-CoV-2/ACE-2 junction and SARS-CoV-2 spike protein based on molecular modeling

In vitroImmunity

Molecular modeling study evaluating the antiviral properties of Uncaria tomentosa (cat’s claw) components against SARS-CoV-2. The study identified bioactive compounds with potential therapeutic effects by interacting with the RBD–ACE-2 interface and the viral spike protein, suggesting cat’s claw as a potential complementary or alternative medicine for COVID-19.

Uncaria tomentosa (cat's claw) improves quality of life in patients with advanced solid tumors.

Studyn = 51

Prospective phase II study assessing the effects of 100 mg of Uncaria tomentosa extract three times daily in patients with advanced solid tumors. Treatment improved overall quality of life and social functioning, and reduced fatigue, but did not significantly change biochemical or inflammatory parameters. The disease stabilized for more than 8 months in four participants.
