Colon cleansing regimens. A clinical study in 1200 patients.

RCTn = 1,200

RCT studying the purgative effect of bisacodyl, anthraquinone glycosides (Cascara), and sodium picosulfate in 1200 patients. The combination of a contact laxative and a saline purge produced good cleansing effect in 52%-80% of patients, with 96% achieving clean colons with an additional tap water enema. The cleansing systems were tolerated favorably by over 90% of patients, though 17% reported restricted work capacity on the day of cleansing.

Physicochemical, Antioxidant and Mineral Composition of Cascara Beverage Prepared by Cold Brewing

Study

The study investigates the physicochemical, antioxidant, and mineral composition of cascara beverages prepared by cold brewing at various temperatures. Cold brewing resulted in higher concentrations of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and caffeine compared to hot-brewed cascara. Temperature significantly affected these variables, with caffeine and copper concentrations highest at 20 °C.
