2025·Aesthetic plastic surgery·Yao Liu, Lin Wang

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Botulinum Toxin Combined with Non-Cross-Linked Bovine Collagen for Improving Periorbital Wrinkles.

RCTn = 40Skin Hair Health

RCT of 40 participants with periorbital wrinkles comparing BTX-A injection alone to BTX-A combined with non-cross-linked bovine collagen. The combined treatment group showed a significantly higher markedly effective rate and patient satisfaction compared to BTX-A alone, with no adverse events reported.

Bioengineering in the oral cavity: our experience.

RCTn = 80Skin Hair Health

Double-blind study of 80 patients with oral mucosal lesions comparing advanced medications (bovine collagen, oxidized regenerated cellulose, synthetic hyaluronic acid) to conventional medications. Advanced medications improved wound healing time, allowing re-epithelialization in 2-20 days compared to 45 days with conventional treatment.

2008·Contemporary clinical trials·Jialiang Li, Weng Kee Wong

A semi-parametric analysis for identifying scleroderma patients responsive to an anti-fibrotic agent.

RCT

Multi-center clinical trial for Scleroderma patients comparing bovine collagen treatment to placebo. Late phase patients benefited from bovine collagen at 15 months, while the placebo group did not. Semi-parametric and parametric approaches were used to ascertain treatment efficacy.

Use of lyophilized bovine collagen for split-thickness skin graft donor site management.

RCTSkin Hair Health

RCT studying the use of lyophilized bovine collagen (gelfix spray) for donor site management after split-thickness skin grafts. The gelfix group showed earlier epithelisation and pain relief compared to the control group, with no differences in scarring after 30 and 90 days.

Collagen-assisted healing of facial wounds after Mohs surgery.

RCTn = 111Skin Hair Health -

RCT evaluating the effect of bovine collagen on wound healing in 111 patients undergoing facial Mohs surgery. No difference was found in the rate of wound epithelialization or final cosmetic appearance between the collagen and no-collagen groups.

Immunologic response to collagen-impregnated vascular grafts: a randomized prospective study. The Canadian Multicenter Hemashield Study Group.

RCTn = 128

RCT testing the immune response to bovine collagen-impregnated vascular prostheses in 128 patients. Five patients with collagen-coated grafts showed seroconversion to bovine collagen, but no cell-mediated immune response was detected. The potential for bovine collagen to stimulate an immune response is low and appears to be without clinical consequences.

Research on Application of Japanese Quince (Chaenomeles L.) and Pork Collagen in Dark Chocolate—Benefits in Prevention of Inflammation In Vitro Model

In vitroInflammation

The study investigated the addition of Japanese quince and pork collagen to dark chocolate and its effects on antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory activities. The inclusion of quince and collagen enhanced the antioxidant properties of the chocolate, with specific combinations showing higher activity against enzymes related to inflammation and neurodegenerative disorders.
