Ten females were tested in a double-blinded, randomized design during both the early and late follicular phases. Inorganic nitrate supplementation, in the form of beetroot juice, worsened time to exhaustion by 10% but did not affect exercise economy or vascular health.

Acute beetroot juice supplementation on sympathetic nerve activity: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled proof-of-concept study.
