Effects of Spray-Drying Conditions on the Functional and Physicochemical Properties of Young Barley Grass Juice Powders.
The study analyzed the effects of spray-drying conditions on the functional and physicochemical properties of young barley grass juice powders. It found that dehumidified air application enabled the production of carrier-free young barley leaf juice powder with high retention of chlorophyll A and B. The study also noted the highest degradation among bioactive compounds for vitamin C.
Effects of different drying methods on the storage stability of barley grass powder.
The study evaluated the effects of different drying methods on the storage stability of barley grass powder. Vacuum freeze drying (VFD) preserved color, l-ascorbic acid, and chlorophyll better than hot-air drying (HAD), steam blanching prior to hot-air drying (SHAD), and far-infrared drying (FID). SHAD shortened drying time and delayed degradation of l-ascorbic acid and chlorophyll during storage.
Effects of young barley leaf extract and antioxidative vitamins on LDL oxidation and free radical scavenging activities in type 2 diabetes.
RCT evaluating the effects of young barley leaf extract (BL) and/or vitamins C and E on LDL oxidation and free radical scavenging in 36 type 2 diabetic patients. Supplementation reduced blood chemiluminescence levels and increased vitamin E content in LDL subfractions, with the greatest antioxidative effect observed in the BL + CE group.
Investigation of in vitro biological activity of young Hordeum vulgare leaf in correlation with its bioactive compounds.
The study examined the chemical characteristics and antioxidant activity of Hordeum vulgare methanolic and aqueous extracts. The methanolic extract showed potent antioxidant activity and moderate inhibition of xanthine oxidase, suggesting potential health benefits. The study highlights the importance of harvest timing and extraction methods on the phytochemical composition and pharmacological activity of H. vulgare.
andAssessment of Anti-inflammation Properties of Saponarin Extracted from Hordeum Vulgare.
The study investigates the anti-inflammatory properties of saponarin extracted from Hordeum vulgare (Barley grass). Both Barley Grass Hexane Extract (BGHE) and Barley grass aqueous extract (BGAQ) showed significant inhibitory effects on inflammation, with BGHE exhibiting superior efficacy.
Barley Grass Juice Attenuates Hydrodynamic Transfection-Induced HCC Initiation in Mice.
The study investigated the effects of barley grass juice on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in a mouse model. Barley grass juice administration attenuated tumor development and increased immune cell infiltration in the liver, suggesting potential benefits for HCC alleviation.
Wheat and Barley Grass Juice Addition to a Plant-Based Feed Improved Growth and Flesh Quality of Common Carp ().
The study assessed the effect of wheat grass juice and barley grass juice addition to fish diet on growth and meat quality of common carp. The inclusion of these juices in the plant-based feed stimulated growth and improved meat quality by lowering fat and ash content, with no significant effect on feed conversion ratio and condition factor.
Chemical Composition and Protective Effect of Young Barley (L.) Dietary Supplements Extracts on UV-Treated Human Skin Fibroblasts in In Vitro Studies.
In vitro study evaluating the effect of young barley extracts on human skin fibroblasts exposed to UVB radiation. Young barley extract increased fibroblast survival, accelerated migration, and inhibited MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression, suggesting protective and restorative effects for potential use in nutricosmetics.
Anti-osteoclastogenic Effects of Indole Alkaloids Isolated from Barley (Var.) Grass.
The study investigated the anti-osteoclastogenic effects of indole alkaloids isolated from barley grass (HVA). The alkaloid fraction significantly inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclast formation and protected mice from LPS-induced bone loss, suggesting potential for preventing and treating osteolytic bone diseases.
Gut microbiota-derived inosine from dietary barley leaf supplementation attenuates colitis through PPARγ signaling activation
The study investigates the effects of dietary barley leaf supplementation on colitis, focusing on gut microbiota-derived inosine and PPARγ signaling activation. Barley leaf supplementation ameliorated DSS-induced gut microbiota dysbiosis and improved intestinal mucosal barrier functions, suggesting a protective role against colitis.
Bioactivity evaluations of leaf extract fractions from young barley grass and correlation with their phytochemical profiles.
The study evaluated the bioactivity of leaf extract fractions from young barley grass, focusing on their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The extracts showed high phenolic and flavonoid contents, correlating with strong antioxidant activity. Methanolic and ethyl acetate extracts demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory activity, and the Brine Shrimp Lethality Assay indicated bioactivity, suggesting potential as plant-derived anti-tumor compounds.
Effects of ultrasonic pretreatments on quality, energy consumption and sterilization of barley grass in freeze drying.
The study investigates the effects of ultrasonic pretreatments on the quality, energy consumption, and sterilization of barley grass during freeze drying. Ultrasonic treatments at various power levels improved drying efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and enhanced the nutritional quality of barley grass by increasing flavonoid and chlorophyll content.
Effect of microwave freeze drying on quality and energy supply in drying of barley grass.
The study investigates the effect of microwave freeze drying on the quality and energy efficiency of drying barley grass. It found that microwave freeze drying retains chlorophyll and flavonoids, improves color and odor, and decreases energy consumption compared to contact heating.
Insoluble fiber in young barley leaf suppresses the increment of postprandial blood glucose level by increasing the digesta viscosity.
The study examined the effects of barley leaf powder (BLP) and its insoluble fibers on postprandial blood glucose levels in rats and healthy Japanese volunteers. BLP and its insoluble fibers suppressed the increment of postprandial blood glucose levels in rats and increased digesta viscosity. In humans, BLP suppressed postprandial blood glucose levels in individuals with higher blood glucose levels after meals.
Barley grass juice (Hordeum vulgare L.) inhibits obesity and improves lipid profile in high fat diet-induced rat model.
The study evaluated the anti-obesity activity of barley grass juice in a high fat diet-induced rat model. Barley grass juice administration for 60 days decreased body weight, improved lipid profile, and liver function markers, and reduced atherosclerosis in rats. GC-MS analysis identified 12 phytochemical constituents in the juice.
